HL Deb 29 March 1911 vol 7 c710
THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (LORD BALFOUR OF BURLEIGH)

My Lords, the series of Resolutions which stand in my name are Resolutions which are usually moved about this period of the year. The time under ordinary circumstances after which a Private Bill is not to be read a second time is generally fixed towards the latter days of June, but I have thought it expedient to extend the time a little this year for circumstances which will be in the minds of everybody. Therefore I have suggested the 4th day of July. With that exception the Motion is entirely in accordance with what has been done for many years past. I beg to move accordingly.

Moved, That no Private Bill brought from the House of Commons shall be read a second time after Tuesday the 4th day of July next:

That no Provisional Order Confirmation Bill originating in this House shall be read a first time after Tuesday the 9th day of May next:

That no Provisional Order Confirmation Bill brought from the House of Commons shall be read a second time after Tuesday the 4th day of July next:

That when a Bill shall have passed this House with amendments these orders shall not apply to any new Bill sent up from the House of Commons which the Chairman of Committees shall report to the House is substantially the same as the Bill so amended:

That this House will not receive any petition for a Private Bill later than Tuesday the 9th day of May next, unless such Private Bill shall have been approved by the High Court of Justice; nor any petition for a Private Bill approved by the High Court of Justice after Thursday the 11th day of May next:

That this House will not receive any report from the Judges upon petitions presented to this House for Private Bills after Thursday the 11th day of May next.—(Lord Balfour of Burleigh.)

On Question, Motion agreed to:

Ordered, That the said Orders be printed and published, and affixed on the doors of this House and Westminster Hall. (No. 42.)
