HL Deb 09 May 1890 vol 344 c553
*THE EARL OF WEMYSS

My Lords, I regret very much to have to postpone the Motion which stands on the Paper in my name. I hope it will not be inconvenient to any noble Lord who is anxious to take part in this discussion; but as lam very anxious that the Prime Minister should be present to state the views of the Government upon this very important subject, a subject which is daily becoming of greater importance, and as the Prime Minister is unavoidably detained at present elsewhere, I feel that I have DO other course—though I adopt it with great reluctance—than to ask leave to postpone this notice to the only free day on the Notice Paper—that is, next Monday week. I am very sorry to be compelled to do this.
