HL Deb 21 May 1886 vol 305 c1638

In answer to Viscount SIDMOUTH,

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (The Earl of ELGIN)

said, that he understood that a Vote had been taken on account in the other House to defray the expenses of the demolition of the buildings occupying the site on which it had been proposed to erect the new War Office and Admiralty, but that nothing would be done beyond what was absolutely necessary until the Committee of the House of Commons appointed to consider the subject should have issued its Report.
