HL Deb 13 March 1877 vol 232 c1833

Order of the Day for the House to be put into Committee (on Re-commitment), read.

After a short conversation, which was inaudible—

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

said, it was at the instance of noble Lords, Members of that House, who had filled the office of Lord Lieutenant and Custos Rotulorum of counties that he had introduced clauses to make the Bill apply to counties. He was prepared, in accordance with an intimation given by him on a former occasion, to refer the Bill to a Select Committee; but it was to be understood that it was the Bill, and not the whole subject, that was to be so referred.

Order discharged; and Bill referred to a Select Committee.
