EARL DE GREY AND RIPON,in moving the second reading of this Bill, said, 1540 the object was to enable Sir John Lawrence to receive the allowance granted him by the East India Company during the time he received his salary as Governor General. The Bill was in exact accordance with the precedent of Lord Hardinge.
