HL Deb 25 July 1849 vol 107 cc949-50
LORD BROUGHAM

said, he had been desired by one of the County Court Judges to state the highly satisfactory result of county courts. Since the establishment of these courts 1,191,000l. had been paid, or compounded for, or paid into court, and an amount exceeding 1,500,000l. had altogether been disposed of, whilst more than a sufficient sum had been produced by fees to pay the whole expenses of the salaries of the judges and other officers of those courts. It was a most satisfactory result of this great experiment, which he had suggested in the year 1833.

House adjourned till To-morrow.
