§ The Duke of Wellingtonmoved the Standing Orders, and the appointment of Lord Shaftesbury as Chairman. The noble Duke expressed in strong terms his sense of the ability and courtesy with which the noble Earl conducted the business of the House.
The Lord Chancellor, in putting the question, bore testimony to the long experience, activity and knowledge of his noble Friend.
Lord Shaftesburythanked their Lordships for the honour conferred upon him, and observed, that he ought to know something of their business, as he had been thirty years their Lordships' Chairman.
