HC Deb 26 May 1936 vol 312 cc1836-9
Mr. ATTLEE

May I ask the Prime Minister for what reason he is moving to suspend the Eleven o'Clock Rule tonight?

The PRIME MINISTER

This is, I hope and believe, only a precautionary measure. We are anxious to get the Report stage of the Education Bill completed. If the Report stage should take a much less time—and I hope it may finish in good time—we should move the Third Reading of the Bill.

Motion made, and Question put, That the Proceedings on Government Business be exempted, at this day's Sitting, from the provisions of the Standing Order (Sittings of the House)."—[The Prime Minister.]

The House divided: Ayes, 269; Noes, 117.
