HC Deb 04 May 1925 vol 183 cc598-601
Mr. J. RAMSAY MACDONALD

Supposing the Second Beading of the Gold Standard Bill is obtained before eleven o'clock to-night, what business does the Prime Minister propose to take?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am moving the suspension of the Eleven o'Clock Rule because it is essential that the Gold Standard Bill should become law as early as possible, so that we must get the Second Reading and the Financial Resolution today. For that purpose, I am moving the suspension of the Rule. In the event of that stage of the Gold Standard Pill being obtained before eleven, I propose to ask the House only to consider the China Indemnity (Application) Bill, on Report, and the Administration of Justice Bill, also on Report.

Motion made, and Question put, That the Proceedings on the Gold Standard Bill and in Committee on Gold Standard [Money] be exempted, at this day's Sitting, from the provisions of the Standing Order (Sittings of the House)."— [The Prime Minister.]

The House divided: Ayes, 266; Noes, 76.
